What's the best time of day for reading? Well, for Baby Bear it's all day long. From the first wild wake-up book to the last gentle sleepy-time book--and all the adventures in between--each book takes Baby Bear somewhere new and exciting.

In this companion to Baby Bear's Chairs, bestselling author Jane Yolen and award-winning illustrator Melissa Sweet have created a celebration of little bears everywhere, their beloved books, and their carefree imaginations.

Publishers Weekly

After feeling that the "great big bears" got all the advantages in Baby Bear's Chairs, the preschooler cub hero celebrates the joy of words in Baby Bear's Books by Jane Yolen, illus. by Melissa Sweet. In the course of a day, he bounces to a "wild book," chimes in with the words he knows in other books, and reads "only pictures" to his brother; books play a role at mealtimes, bathtime and bedtime. Children's Literature

Baby Bear loves to read, "So, read to me stories of happy and after, big books that all end with a lot of bear laughter." He also loves for someone to read to him, "One book, then two till I'm deep in my nap, cuddled and cradled in Mama's warm lap." He enjoys reading in the morning, at snack time, at nap times, at dinnertime, and after his bath. He loves for Mama and Papa Bear to read to him, and he loves reading with his big brother. The playful, fun, and endearing illustrations complement the musical, rhythmical, darling text. As a whole, this piece is overflowing with personality. Though the book is inscribed to "wee David and Kirsten, who love books," this book cries out to the avid book lover, regardless of age or stage in life. For children ages two to five, it will foster a love for reading and adorable characters.

PreS-K-This follow-up to Baby Bear's Chairs (Harcourt, 2005) is a sweetly illustrated poem about a cub's passion for books. Baby Bear loves to be read to, and from morning until bedtime, he convinces a loved one to share a tale or two. He and his ever-present stuffed bee listen with rapt attention, and sometimes he returns the favor by "reading" a wordless book aloud. Rhyming couplets reveal a day in the life of this much-cherished cub as his parents and older brother indulge his delight in the written word. Mixed-media and collage illustrations create a warm and comfortable world filled with honey gathering, fishing, eating, and relaxing, pastimes that are all accompanied by books. Plaids, checks, stripes, and polka dots decorate the clothing and household of this happy family. Piled-up volumes are found on tabletops, the front porch, shelves, and even the hammock. The charming double-page pictures are large enough to share with groups, and the rhymes will engage listeners.-Maryann H. Owen, Racine Public Library, WI Copyright 2006 Reed Business Information.
